Yesterday I was invited to come back to my old stomping grounds {AKA cosmetology school}! Going to cosmetology school was such a pivotal moment in my life because I was in between following my dreams of being in the beauty industry or finishing my degree at University of Houston. I’m the first one to tell you that college isn’t for everyone. Do I believe education is the road to success? Absolutely. But it’s how you apply your knowledge and education that will bring you your success! It’s all about what makes you happy in life! Making people feel beautiful and providing an exceptional service is what makes me happy!
With all that being said, while I was in school I developed a life-long friendship with one of my teachers. Ms. Rudisell, also know as Rudi, really took me under her wing and encouraged me to push myself to get further education outside my weekly classes. I think she saw more talent in me than I saw in myself and if it weren’t for her I highly doubt I would have finished cosmo school. She was always so proud of me for any little accomplishment of mine. She inspired me to want more for myself. She was heaven sent to me so I feel like I owe a lot of my success to her. I’m so honored that she asks me to come speak to her class from time to time and I did just that yesterday afternoon! Her students were so eager to learn new techniques, listen to what I have to say about the industry, and my advice on how to get through school.
It’s incredibly important me to stay humble and go back to my roots. I remember sitting in the same spot as those students thinking that I had no idea where to start in my career. I hope I’m able to shed some inspiration and motivation that with a little determination, will power, and self love – you get exactly where you are meant to be.
Just don’t give up. Ever.
